So recently I have seen a lot more post about the Himalayan salt lamp and the Benefits associated with it .. As some one that Has sleeping problems and Anxiety I thought its worth a try .. And they are really pretty hah
So what Is a Salt Lamp
Real Himalayan salt lamps are hand chiseled solid blocks of ancient crystal salts like this. They have a beautiful pink colour, often pinkish orange, due to the high concentration of minerals. Inside the hollowed out middle of the salt lamp is a light bulb to generate both light and heat. This is important as salt lamps won’t work properly without a heat-producing light.
How does it work ?
As a Himalayan pink salt lamp absorbs water and particles from the air, it also takes positive ions with them. Then, when the heated salt releases cleansed water vapor back into the air, it also expels negative ions which have the opposite effect on our airways – increasing cilial activity to keep your lungs clear
What are the reported health benefits
- Improving breathing problems and reducing allergies.
- Less colds and flu (due to less airborne viruses).
- Increased relaxation and calmness and less stress.
- Improved ability to concentrate and work for longer periods around electrical equipment like computers.
- Fewer headaches and migraines.
- Reduced symptoms from disorders like rheumatism and arthritis.
- An improvement in skin diseases.
- Easier to get to sleep at night.
- A better overall sense of health and wellbeing.
- Salt Lamps and Colour therapy
Colour therapy may not sound particularly scientific but many report great results with it. Most often reported benefits of colour therapy with Himalayan salt lamps include higher energy levels, a more positive mood and a clearer mental state.
Humans certainly respond well to beautiful colours so there’s every reason to believe the beautiful pinkish orange glow of a crystal salt lamp would be beneficial for stress relief.
Another potential benefit of salt lamps is that they don’t emit blue light. Most artificial light is high in the blue spectrum which has been shown to reduce melatonin production and can interfere with normal sleeping patterns.
The soft pink light of your Himalayan crystal salt lamp is the ideal soothing colour to look at and relax before bed. Doing so for a while before you go to your bedroom may even help you get to sleep.
How do you pick a lamp
Orange Colour– Darker coloured lamps are typically considered higher quality. Lamps should specify that they are 100% Himalayan salt, as cheap imitations may use lower quality salt.
Size– The bigger the salt lamp, the bigger the affect. Smaller lamps weight 5-6 pounds while larger ones can weigh up to 50. A good general rule is that 1 pound of salt will filter approximately a 4×4 area of a room. Smaller lamps are typically much less expensive, so we keep 1-2 in smaller rooms and 2-3 in larger rooms of our home.
Rough Surface– The surface area of a salt lamp determines its hygroscopic potential. Rougher lamps have a higher surface area than smooth and polished lamps and are more effective at improving air quality. In my opinion, they also look better and are a great decoration for most rooms.
Bulb– The hygroscopic benefits are due to the salt and heat together so it is important to use a heat-producing bulb. LED bulbs don’t accomplish this. I use these inexpensive bulbs.
So Far I’ve had this for a couple days and its just a nice light source for my living room .. It is soft and relaxing .. The one that I did pick up is not as orange as id like it but its still nice to look at
